DJ Equipment
What DJ equipment do I need for 100 guests?
For 100 guests you need a DJ setup consisting of two players (e.g. Pioneer CDJ), a DJ mixer, a PA system with around 2x 1,000 watts including a subwoofer, plus some effect lighting. More important than brands is the right speaker power for the room size - it's better to plan a bit of headroom.
The basic DJ setup at a glance
A complete DJ setup consists of three building blocks: playback and mixing gear (player + mixer or a controller), sound reinforcement (PA + subwoofer) and lighting. For 100 guests, a club-standard setup with two CDJ players and a DJ mixer is the most reliable choice - practically every DJ can work with it.
- 2x media players (e.g. Pioneer CDJ) or 1 DJ controller
- 1x DJ mixer (2-4 channels)
- PA system with subwoofer, matched to the number of guests
- Monitor/booth speaker for the DJ (optional)
- Effect lighting: uplights + 1-2 moving heads or effect projectors
- Cable sets, stands and enough power
How much PA power do I need for 100 guests?
The number of guests in relation to the type of music serves as a guideline. For danceable music you can reckon on about 3-5 watts RMS per guest. This table shows common reference values:
| Guests | PA power (RMS) | Subwoofer | Typical system |
|---|---|---|---|
| up to 50 | approx. 2x 300-500 W | optional | Active speaker pair |
| 50-100 | approx. 2x 700-1,000 W | 1-2 recommended | PA set with sub |
| 100-200 | approx. 2x 1,000-1,500 W | 2 required | 2-way + double sub |
| 200+ | Line array / more | several | Scaled system |
Checklist: what you should clarify before booking
- Room size, ceiling height and whether the party is indoors or outdoors
- Does the DJ bring their own equipment or do they need everything on site?
- Power supply - is a household socket enough or is more needed?
- Setup time and access (stairs, elevator, parking options)
- Should lighting be included and who operates the gear?
💡 Tip: For weddings and corporate parties, it's better to size the sound one step larger. Headroom sounds cleaner at room volume and doesn't distort when the dance floor fills up.
Frequently asked questions
Is a DJ controller enough for 100 guests?
Yes - a DJ controller is perfectly sufficient for the mixing gear. What matters is the PA power: for 100 guests it should be around 2x 700-1,000 watts with a subwoofer.
Do I need lighting for a party with 100 guests?
Recommended, yes. Even a few battery-powered uplights plus one or two moving heads or effect projectors turn a room into a party location. But lighting is not necessary for the sound.
